FATA S.p.A. is a company active in the field of industrial plant engineering and contracting. Through its division FATA EPC, it was awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts for the Casthouse and the Anode Baking Plant by Qatar Petroleum and Hydro Aluminium for the new Qatalum aluminium smelter. The contracts, whose overall value is US$ 500 million, were signed in Doha, Qatar.

Construction works will start in early 2008, and production of the casthouse and the anode baking plant will commence in the latter part of 2009. Qatalum will be the largest aluminium plant ever launched with a first phase capacity of 585,000 tonnes per year of primary aluminium. The plant will be built in the north of Mesaieed Industrial Area, South of Doha, Qatar.
