Promat is the world's largest manufacturer of calcium silicates, of which use is made in almost all fields of industry. The existing product range includes products with all bulk densities (of between 240 and 1600 kg/m3) which are manufactured with various technologies.
In 2002 Promat bought the assets of the former company Cape Calsil. Production of the product groups MONALITE®, MONOLUX and DURATEC is carried out at the Glasgow works in Scotland. This rounded off Promat's calcium silicate product range with medium-dense and dense calcium silicates. Promat are now able to meet the requirements of the aluminium industry in particular.
This concerns especially the MONALITE® material group, which is not wettable by nonferrous metals and is inert to corrosion when in direct con-tact with a number of alloys. MONALITE® has been used successfully for many years in aluminium casting houses.
The homogeneous, finely-pored material structure is the basis for fine, sharp-edged cutting into cast components such as floats, nozzles, rings and channels.
MONOLUX are medium-dense calcium silicate boards up to 800 °C - heat insulation boards with densities of between 640 and 950 kg/m3, extremely strong and easy to process. They are used as a replacement for asbestos in ventilation and air-conditioning plants, as heat protection and load-bearing shaped parts, as well as sealing material.
DURATEC materials: Dense calcium silicates for up to 1000 °C and so-called "technical ceramics" produced according to calcium silicate technology. These are thermally and electrically isolating, fracture-proof and temperature-resistant. The material can be excellently worked and processed with special processing machines and is used mainly in the following applications: furnace construction, in particular special parts for induction furnaces, circuitry and safety technology (spark quenching chamber) and for precision parts in machine and plant construction.
As a result of these additional products, Promat now has the broadest pos-sible range of high temperature materials, all of which are harmless to the health, for many types of industrial applications requiring a high level of efficiency.
